Public Discussions were Held on Kajaran-Agarak Section of the North-South Tranche 4
The first round of public awareness meetings took place in Kajaran and Meghri cities of Syunik region. The public discussions were related to the reconstruction program of the Kajaran-Agarak section of the North-South Road Corridor (Tranche 4).
Representatives of "Road Department" SNCO, design company IRD Engineering and GP Ingenieria (Italy) presented in detail preliminary design of Kajaran-Agarak road section‚ the information on environment and social impact.
In particular, it was mentioned that the construction of Kajaran-Agarak section of Tranche 4 is financed by the Eurasian Development Fund of the Eurasian Development Bank and the RA Government. The total length of road section will about 45 km, the construction of the first section (about 32 km) is planned to start in 2022. The planned road will cross the existing road in some parts, and in some parts a new alignment will be constructed. Due to the road to be reconstructed, the traffic through Kajaran and Meghri communities will be reduced. At the same time, the existing section of the M-2 interstate road will be exploited. According to the project, bridges, transport junctions and tunnels will be constructed. During the implementation of the design, the Italian organization has carried out the geotechnical research in several stages, in cooperation with local specialists.
The new road will reduce both the distance (about 14 km) and the travel time, it will save about 38 minutes with a speed of 80 km/h.
The organizers of the public discussion answered the questions of the residents of the communities.
It was emphasized that the design is preliminary, it will be revised taking into account the comments and recommendations received from the communities.
