Environmental and Historical Impact

Environmental impact assessment (EIA) is one of the most significant components of "North-South Road Corridor Investment Program”. EIA ensures the implementation of actions in accordance with the laws and regulations of Armenia as well as Environmental and Safeguard Policy Statement (2009) of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). "Environmental Assessment and Investigation Framework” (EAIF) was approved by the RA Government and ADB. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is implemented for each tranche of the Program, which identifies the level and intensity of the hazard on the impacted community and environment resulted from the road construction activities. In addition, Environment Management Plan (EMP) is developed which describes the prevention and mitigation measures (together with monitoring and supervision of those measures) of adverse impact on the environment, historical, natural and cultural monuments resulted from the construction.

"Initial Environmental Impact Assessment Report” was developed in the framework of Tranche 1 (Yerevan-Ararat and Yerevan-Ashtarak road sections) and approved by the ADB and the RA Government. Tranche 1 was classified as Category B based on Environmental Impact Assessment.

Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIA) and Environment Management Plan (EMP) were developed in the framework of Tranche 2 (Ashtarak-Talin road section) and were approved by the ADB and posted on ADB website. Tranche 2 was classified as Category A based on Environmental Impact Assessment. The EIA underwent expertise of "Environmental Expertise” SNCO within the RA Ministry of Nature Protection and received positive opinion on 22.07.2011.

Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIA) and Environment Management Plan (EMP) were developed in the framework of Tranche 3 (Talin- Gyumri road section) and were approved by the ADB and posted on ADB website. Tranche 3 was classified as Category A based on Environmental Impact Assessment. The EIA underwent expertise of "Environmental Expertise” SNCO within the RA Ministry of Nature Protection and received positive opinion on 14.10.2013.
