The Prime Minister attends opening of Ashtarak-Gyumri section of North-South Road
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan attended the opening of the Ashtarak-Gyumri section of the North-South Road Project.
Those responsible reported that the total length of the Ashtarak-Gyumri road section is about 84 km. The construction was carried out in 4 stages. The construction works of the approximately 8 km section bypassing the Agarak archaeological site, the 34 km Ashtarak-Talin section, the 18.7 km Talin-Lanjik section, and the 23 km Lanjik-Gyumri section were carried out with the financing of the Government, the Asian Development Bank, and the European Investment Bank.
Thus, a first-class road was built on the Ashtarak-Gyumri section with a maximum permitted speed of 90 km/h. There are two lanes in each direction, each 3.6 m wide. There is also a 2 m wide technical or safety zone on the road, which is intended for parking in case of vehicle breakdown, for proper organization of road maintenance work, and other purposes. Entrances to settlements from the newly constructed road are organized through transport junctions. In total, 19 transport hubs and 10 bridge crossings have been built from Ashtarak to Gyumri.
17 crossings for agricultural machinery have been built, as well as cattle crossings located under the road. A lighting system has been provided at transport junctions. The construction of the road section has significantly improved road safety.
